因主的慈愛，我和我的Light Club家庭成員從泰國Abba House的宣教行回港了。 By the grace of God, I’ve returned from the mission at Abba House in Thailand with my Light Club family.
By the grace of God, I’ve returned from the mission at Abba House in Thailand with my Light Club family. Abba House is a place where teenage girls and guys at risk of sex exploitation in Thailand get accommodation, food and most important of all, the Father’s love through a supportive Christian community. Girls attend public school but guys must learn a trade as they were trafficked at a much earlier age into sex slavery; most of the guys can barely read or write. Abba House is also a half way house for boys and men being released from drug rehabs and prison.
It’s been a truly amazing journey and I’d like to share with you the highlights of God’s work in me and through me in the trip. May our Father in heaven be glorified through this testimony!
Breakthrough in physical healing
One of the major breakthroughs in Gateway (pre-mission training camp in Hong Kong) for me was my confession about my doubts in physical healing in front of my brothers and sisters. I allowed the enemy to harbour quite a bit of doubts in this area years ago because of my dad’s illness and death while I was still studying in England. However, God miraculously healed me when my pastor prayed for me and anointed my infected ear with oil. I didn’t realise it was healed supernaturally until one or two hours later while I was talking to someone on phone and found that the pain in my ear was gone! Praise Him. My faith in God in physical healing which the enemy stole is back again!
More importantly, my pastor also encouraged me to pray for a sister who was ill and anoint her with oil during the mission in Thailand, trusting that the power of prayer of faith is great (James 5:15-16). That sister felt better the following day and she also blessed me back with her prayers while I was in need of healing on the next day. To be blessed is to bless! Wow! God’s plan is awesome!
Worship in a free style
The worship time in the 24-7 Prayer Room in Gateway rocks! I had a chance to do worship in a totally different way — singing, playing guitar and bongo in a free style with a worshipful heart was so freeing in the Spirit too! Thanks to Janice, Jill, Chris and Daniel for the great free jam. I am sure our Papa God in heaven was chuffed about what we did that day! Thank you Lord for guiding us from above!
Learning to receive and stop being Martha
During the trip in Thailand, my body was also weak at times and I felt like I had to delegate some of the responsibilities to others. I was supposed to be the coordinator for worship, English teaching and baby-sitting Izzy, a cute little 11-month baby girl of my pastor and his wife. I asked a sister in the team to coordinate worship in the end. On hindsight, I see why God allowed those physical ailments during the trip. It was in times like these that I learned to receive and rest. I have the tendency to be ‘Martha’ and take up a lot of tasks. I saw the beauty of teamwork and trust in others in times of need. (Romans 8:28)
Seeing the beauty of the pure in heart
Teaching English amongst the girls and guys in Abba House was so rewarding because I had the opportunity to build relationships with them directly. I was humbled by their grateful and respectful attitude towards the teacher. Their pure hearts and innocent smiles were some of the best memories I had from the trip. Simply through spending time with them, I learned how to love like Jesus did. Blessed are the poor in spirit (Matthew 5:3). They are very different from the students that I come across in Hong Kong because they are humble and grateful for what they’ve got. ‘Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.’ (Matthew 5:8)
Ministering to the girls in Sunday service
To be able to pray for the girls and show love to them through hugs and kisses on their hands during the ministering time in the Sunday service definitely made me understand Father’s love better. Sometimes, simple acts of love like prayers and physical touch are the most effective universal love languages that we can use to break down cultural and language barriers. They might not understand a single word that I said in the prayers but as I saw their tears streaming down their cheeks, I knew the Father was working through me to show Abba love to them. What an honour to have partnered with God! It is very humbling too to see how small I am and how great God is!
Washing feet for others in Abba House
My heart just melted as I saw a guy in Abba House crying helplessly when our pastor washed feet for him. The act of washing feet brought a lot of joy and happy tears to many of us. I was very delighted to act it out finally after hearing this story in the Bible for so many times and for so many years. Some may call it just a gesture of love but I call it love in action! Living in Hong Kong, we always feel the need to stay clean and hygienic but it brought joy to my heart as I got my hands dirty by washing the girls’ feet. A teacher can become a friend; a leader can be a servant. Servant leadership finally became a reality. Praise the Lord!
Seeing family’s love in Light Club (LC)
I saw the beauty of God’s grace in our team as I witnessed reconciliation amongst different team members despite the enemy’s attempts to break our unity. I see more and more of family’s love in LC. I was glad to know each and every one in my team better. Knowing them more made me understand them more. More understanding also led to more love for them. One of the sisters in the group just did all sorts of messy housework without drawing much attention to herself and I started to see true beauty in her! All the brothers and sisters will be rewarded greatly in heaven for every little thing they did for one another in a hidden way during the trip.
Understanding the Father’s heart better through baby-sitting
Looking after Izzy for my pastor and his wife also helps me overcome my fear in mothering a child. Actually, as I saw Izzy falling asleep restfully in my arms, I felt quite happy and fulfilled in my heart for some strange reason. It was at that moment when I understood God’s Father’s heart better. God is also happy to see me resting peacefully in His arms. It brings delight to His heart as we rest in His arms without striving or worrying at all. God is most glorified when we are most satisfied in Him!
God’s grace is always sufficient for us! I come back to Hong Kong as a different person, appreciating the people and things around me much more than I used to. It’s nerve-wrecking but rewarding to step out of your comfort zone and trust in Him totally. Let’s keep praying for the ministry at Abba House and Thailand! Praise Him!
